The figures are actually quite well done. The minis were created and sold by Mongoose and were in a larger scale than the existing Star Fleet Battles minis so that there was an opportunity for more detail and better sculpting. There was a small, hardback rulebook and several fleet and squadron boxes as well as individual miniatures. Both series are great when there are ships in combat but the rest of the drama is, to me, quite tedious.Ī Call to Arms: Star Fleet was published as a joint venture between ADB and Mongoose Publishing.

Boring in the same ‘All my Children in space’ vibe that Star Trek Deep Space Nine has. To be honest I actually thought the B5 series was rather boring. I actually played a bit of that game despite not really having a lot of B5 minis or being a big fan of the series.

It was originally based on the A Call to Arms rules that Matt Sprange wrote at Mongoose for the Babylon 5 universe. The rules allow you to play miniature games with Star Fleet Battles minis and in some respects that is all I want to do and the plusses or minuses of the game aren’t as important and pushing around Hydran Mongol class cruisers and shooting Klingons.Ī Call to Arms: Star Fleet is an odd game. I am intending to just discuss some aspects of the game that I like and some that I don’t.
